 This week was an interrupted but productive week.  "Time of Your Life" is pretty definitely sticking.  I jammed with a friend for the first time in years, and am thinking that I should go identify more rhythm guitars skills and approaches.  Did a little bit of setlist rust-cleaning too.  I went to GC yesterday and tried the LP again, and realized that it feels great, despite some measure of impostor syndrome.  I walked out with fresh strings and cleaning cloths, but-

 -but ordered the LP online after taking a look at the finish on a few of the offerings.  I like the guitar a lot, and I'm not going to tie it to 'songs I can play' or 'time spend practicing'.  These are independent things, and I'm definitely going to keep playing and practicing, but I'm not going to make financial decisions on musical arguments.

 This next week is going to be more spotty than last week, since I'm going on a camping trip for a week.  I'm going to bring an acoustic and a couple books, but may not be banging things out like I normally would be at home.

The Numbers 5h56m analog, 0m RockSmith 176 bpm downpicking, 254 alternate picking Wanted Dead Or Alive x3, Blackbird x2, Dust In The Wind x3, Communication Breakdown x3, Black Dog x1, Signs x5, Space Oddity x1, Hold On Loosely x2 Alvarez and PRS all week. I bounced in a couple new songs this weeks: Signs, Hold On Loosely, and Rock & Roll Never Forgets.  Classic rock kick much?  I tried picking some modern music out instead, but both the radio and the Billboard Rock lists are heavy on the keyboards and on the sampling.  There isn't a lot of good guitar music out there right now, outside the established rockers, such as Foo Fighters, 311, etc.

Weekly Recap - 20 August 2017

The numbers: 4h25m analog, 42m RockSmith.  59h total. Downpicking 168-176 bpm, alternate picking 216-224 bpm. Wanted Dead or Alive x2 [double @ 112], Blackbird x3+Rec [84-88], Dust In The Wind x4 [84-92], Communication Breakdown x2 , Black Dog x2, Stairway To Heaven x0. RockSmith: Zombie x1, Give It All x1, Swing Life Away x1. I got sucked into a video game -- Prey [2017].  It's definitely a Shock/DX style game where you have options in front of you for how to complete the game, where you get choices, and where you get the chance to flatten the other guy by throwing really big boxes at them.  It shows that I got sucked into a game, because I only logged 5h this week, not 7-8h that I've been doing for the past six weeks.  Eh, the break was good, right? 10 May 2018 Midweek update

Jeez, it really has been over six months since I last focused on playing the guitar. But.  I'm back!  I'm again wanting to learn a bunch of new songs, and this time it's as much to fight off Impostor Syndrome around my guitar skills as not.  I'm definitely able to play well, but I can only play a handful of songs from start to finish, with or without the music in front of me.  Unsurprisingly, this means that my practice goals are still to learn new songs. The current learn-it set list is "Fly By Night" by Rush, "Learn To Fly" by Foo Fighters, and "Are You Gunna Be My Girl" by Jet.  I'm going to mix in a Beatles song after I noodle through a couple of them. Last season's practice really did pay off.  I'm comfortable performing (singing + guitar) "Blackbird", "Dust In The Wind", "Signs", and "Space Oddity".  "Wanted Dead Or Alive" is still pretty close to something I can play...
