RockSmith: Zombie x1, Give It All x1, Swing Life Away x1. I got sucked into a video game -- Prey [2017].  It's definitely a Shock/DX style game where you have options in front of you for how to complete the game, where you get choices, and where you get the chance to flatten the other guy by throwing really big boxes at them.  It shows that I got sucked into a game, because I only logged 5h this week, not 7-8h that I've been doing for the past six weeks.  Eh, the break was good, right? Gave my first guitar lesson to a friend this past week.  Ninety minutes of what's where, getting into a spider stretch, and easy chords (Em, E, Am).  They promptly got swallowed up by work. I got som...

Weekly Review - 13 August 2017

The numbers: 6h30m analog.  2h8m Rocksmith.  54h total. 168bpm downpick, 208 alternate picking. Wanted Dead Or Alive x3, Blackbird x3, Dust In The Wind x2, Communication Breakdown x4, Black Dog x3, Stairway To Heaven x3 This week was kind of a mixed bag for reasons out of my personal life, but I still got some good time in.  The acoustic songs are almost at a point where I can play without sheets (lead or otherwise), outside some of the odd little inclusions at the end of codas, etc.  I'm still working on playing at or above recording speeds, and on WDoA's solo.  I still need to put some dedicated time into the DitW outro. "Solos" are the focus for August 14-20.  I just need to get more time in. I'll probably start teaching a friend the guitar next week, get in more solo practice, focus on smooth speed techniques, and maybe play with the Boss DS-1 and RC-20XL. I'm still staring at the Martin Backpacker.  It'd be a nice to have, but ... maybe wh...

Statement of Purpose

Hi, I'm Matt, and I've been playing the guitar for the better part of eight years.  I'll admit that I got started with Guitar Hero 2, then one day said, "What if I put that time into the real guitar?"  So I got an S101 dreadnought at the local music store, and have been carrying on from there, on and off. This blog is a way to be more transparent with my friends about what I'm doing on the guitar.  I'm striving to practice daily, to limit my GAS, and to learn new songs.  There's a paper practice log book, and I'm going to try to copy the weekly summary up to this blog, along with irregular thoughts, the odd video clip, and other silliness. In short, another geek with a guitar and a computer.
